In This Guide
A build-up of e-liquid residue, dust, and pocket lint is one of the most common (and most avoidable) causes of weak hits, burnt taste, and leaking pods. Here's how to properly clean your pod kit in under five minutes.
How Often Should You Clean Your Vape?
For most daily users, a quick wipe-down every time you change a pod (roughly every few days to a week) is enough to prevent build-up. A deeper clean of the contact points and airflow vents once every couple of weeks will keep your device performing like new for much longer.
What You'll Need
- A dry cotton bud or cotton pad
- A soft, dry cloth or tissue
- Isopropyl alcohol (optional, for stubborn residue only — never use water)
Step-by-Step Cleaning Process
- Step 1: Remove the pod from the device completely.
- Step 2: Wipe the device's contact points (the small metal pins where the pod connects) with a dry cotton bud to remove any e-liquid residue or discolouration.
- Step 3: Check the airflow vents on the base or side of the device for dust or lint, and clear gently with a dry cotton bud or soft brush.
- Step 4: Wipe the outside of the pod itself, particularly around the base where it seals into the device, to remove any leaked liquid.
- Step 5: Let everything air-dry for a minute or two before reinserting the pod.
Preventing Build-Up in the First Place
- Store your device upright rather than on its side, which reduces the chance of e-liquid pooling near the contact points
- Avoid overfilling refillable pods past the max-fill line
- Replace pods before they run completely dry, rather than continuing to draw on an empty coil
When Cleaning Won't Fix It
If you've cleaned the device thoroughly and it's still producing a burnt taste, weak vapour, or no vapour at all, the issue is more likely a spent coil or empty pod rather than dirt — in that case, a replacement pod is the fix, not further cleaning.
